Big & Rich co-wrote 8 of the 11 tracks on this album with John Legend & Wyclef Jean making appearances on a couple of tracks. This album shows us the reason why we still need to buy the cd. There are 14 tracks with 3 of them being Intro’s, not something you’ll get downloading individual songs.
Add another one to the wedding song list… ‘Lost in the Moment’ is the break out song of the cd. The title track ‘Between Raising Hell & Amazing Grace’ reminds us that there’s hope for us all as long as we keep trying. ‘Radio’ is preceded with a Side B intro by Big Kenny and then jumps into an up beat pop tempo, reminding us of an 80’s summer hit. ‘Please Man’ takes you in a whole different country direction, with a reggae attitude featuring Wyclef Jean. Insert one rock cover, made famous by AC/DC ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ rounds out the album (sorry boys but I prefer the AC/DC version).
‘Faster Than Angels Fly’ is a message from B&R that living in the fast lane might not be all that it’s cracked up to be and as the song goes ‘Heaven can’t help you if you go Faster than angels fly’.
‘Can’t get happy with this life I have’ from ‘When The Devil Gets The Best Of Me’ is the struggle of breaking free of what torments you. Very moody with lots of strong piano notes.
They have left us with questions, are they splitting up? So far they still have dates running through to the end of the year. Maybe they can resolve the conflict by themselves. BRH & AG is solid Big & Rich style, stretching the boundaries of country, just how we like them.
