| 'One of the Boys' is Gretchen’s 3rd album release. True to Wilson ’s form, the song writing tells you like it is with real life doses of reality & the ever present anthem of not being a high maintenance woman. Wilson co-wrote 10 of the 11 tracks. Gretchen comments in the jacket cover “To me it’s more than just songs. It is my diary set to music.” We get a heartfelt look into Wilson's personal, private & romantic life. I would say not too different from our own. Maybe that's why we have accepted Wilson so easily. This album is exactly what we’ve come to expect from Wilson. She revisits the redneck theme with, “There Goes the Neighbourhood”, the ever present drinking song, “There’s A Place In The Whiskey”, and the rowdy, rock’n roll country song, “You don’t Have To Go Home”. “Come To Bed” is the 1st single off the cd, joined by John Rich on vocals/writer which shows just how talented John is as a writer and reminds us that there’s more than one way to solve an argument! Wilson shows off just how soft & smoky her voice can be. This combination is unstoppable. And then something different comes along, “If You Want A Mother”. Fresh song theme that hasn’t been covered before, and with a sarcastic under tone. All women in a romantic relationship have felt this from time to time and now Gretchen has put it out there in her ‘no holds bar’ style. Put it on when you want to make a point to your man! Insert jacket beautiful, sensual pictures of Gretchen and country scenes. Layout is clean and concise with the feeling of a leather background. All the words to the songs are listed and a short comment from Gretchen about the making of the CD. |
